William Fevre Chile
"La Misión" is our mision
Mr. Victor Pino Torche was not born into a traditional wine family. The family worked in mining and shipping but spent their summer holidays in San Juan de Pirque, a small river-edge village perched on the rocky walls of the Andes in the Maipo Valley in Chile, by then not considered part of “wine country. All of that changed when William Levre, famed his Burgundy’s crafted Premier Cru Chablis met Victor Pino Torche. Mr. Fevre who was in search of a terroir suitable for growing Chardonnay was in awe when he learned that Chilean viniculturists grew grapes in the plains so after scouting the mountainous region on horseback, Mr. Levre knocked on Victor Pino Torche’s door. Mr. Pino Torche and Mr. Levre formed a partnership that translated into a small production of perfectly balanced, high-quality wines which promptly found their way to Europe to satisfy the demanding palate of wine-lovers in the Old Continent.
The vines were slow to mature because they were planted at higher altitudes, where snow fell and the growing season was cooler. None of the founders were in a rush. Patience was allowed. The roots of the vineyards grew deep in the subsoils of the banks of the Maipo River. By 2000, a dozen countries had adopted the wines and there was an opportunity to expand the company. Victor’s youngest son, Gonzalo, became interested and under his leadership, the firm continues to make a difference from the rest.
The work continued and the small business today produces three levels of premium wines: Reserva – Reserva Especial – Gran Reserva. As the family says, “today there is something in the bottle, something to talk about.”
